On June 21, Encore Boston Harbor’s 1,400 hospitality employees, which include housekeepers, cocktail servers, cooks, drivers and room attendants, officially voted 963 to 13 to approve a strike, which is set to begin on July 1 if the unions representing the aforementioned employees, UNITE HERE Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25, can’t strike a new agreement that will benefit the workers with casino-resort officials.

In addition, voting was held at Teamsters Local 25 headquarters in Charlestown between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Reasons for the strike:

The main reason for the strike is the employees’ fight for a new contract, which will guarantee them wage increases and benefits at the Everett property, which would made them equal with the other unionized hotel workers in the city. American casino operator Hard Rock International has announced that it is to debut a temporary gambling facility in Virginia this summer ahead of the expected early-2024 premiere of its $150 million Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Bristol development.

The enterprise owned by the federally-recognized Seminole Tribe of Florida used an official Wednesday press release to detail that local gamblers will be able to visit its interim Bristol Casino: Future Home of Hard Rock venue from July 8 so as to enjoy a selection of approximately 900 slots as well as 20 gaming tables and a sportsbook. The company also revealed that this full-service provisional operation is to create around 600 jobs and open at 500 Gate City Highway on the site of the community’s former Bristol Mall, which is currently being transformed into the more permanent Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Bristol venture.

In October 2020, Netflix announced that it was teaming up with Ubisoft to make a live-action Assassin’s Creed show. More than two years later, though, there’s still no sign of it, and it may be a while yet before the show sees the light of day, as writer and showrunner Jeb Stuart recently told Collider he’s no longer involved.

Stuart didn’t say why he parted ways with Netflix on the show, but said that Collider’s suggestion that it was related to a “difference in vision” was “fair.”

“I think it was a little bit of a move of executives from LA to London, and it allowed the London group who, unfortunately, had to inherit my vision of what it was instead of getting to develop their own vision,” Stuart said. “So I think that’s fair. I know it’s going to be great whenever it comes out. I think the Ubisoft guys are fantastic. I think it’s a terrific franchise. It was just a good, mutual time to move on for both sides.”
