The Astralis Counter-Strike womens’ team has released an open letter to developer Valve, asking for the game to include female skins as a default option in future. The letter was posted by team rifler Josefine Jensen, signed and shared by the other members of the roster (Aurora Lyngdal, Marie Toft, Anja Soelberg and Isabella Ferslev), and reads in part:
“We share the passion for Counter-Strike with millions of gamers world-wide and we love being a part of a truly global community. Unfortunately, we currently feel we are only guests at the party.
“Using a female agent skin costs extra, while default skins are all male. We don’t know why it is so, but we know that it strikes us as being both unfair and a bit unwelcoming. It certainly feels that way and in some way it supports the sexism that we unfortunately still encounter.”
As the letter mentions CS2 does include female agent skins, but they’re all part of previous CS:GO operations and had to be either earned in-game at the time or bought. As Blizzard playfully teased earlier this week, we’re getting another Diablo 4 playtest next month. That’s great, but if you were hoping to carry your progress over from the March beta, you’re out of luck. The developer revealed in its blog post that not only are your Diablo 4 beta characters gone for good, but any character created during the May 12 – May 14 “Server Slam” will also be deleted before the full game releases.
“Any character progress made during the early access and open beta weekends will not carry over to server slam,” the post says. “Additionally, any character progress made during server slam will not carry over to launch.”
It’s a tad frustrating considering that Blizzard has added a whole new exclusive treat on top of its existing Diablo 4 beta rewards—one that you can only get with a level 20 character from defeating world boss Ashava. That means those who spent hours grinding it out to level 20 last month will have to do it all over again from scratch. I’m sure many won’t mind another shot at the levelling process, but it’s a shame for those who won’t have the time or energy to do it a second or third time.

Normally you slog through Skyrim’s underwhelming Thieves Guild questline, inevitably replace the guildmaster, and feel a hit of ennui strong enough to make you question the hundreds of hours you spent playing Bethesda’s RPG. Or maybe that’s just me.
You do score a suit of armor, a magic amulet, and the key to a tribute chest that occasionally fills up with loot, but your life as a crime lord just sort of tapers off. Even your second-in-command Brynjolf, who recruited you back in the Riften Marketplace at the start of the questline, apologizes and says, “I’ve got important things to do,” when you try to interact with him from then on. The rude wanker.
That wasn’t good enough for Elizabeth Jackson Hall, who created a mod called Brynjolf Has Time For You to insure the business-like criminal would still want to talk once you replace his boss. For the most part cooperative games are a great place to enjoy meeting other people and hanging out with them for about a half-hour, then never ever speaking with them again and also not knowing who they are. In the case of Helldivers 2, these are all done in the spirit of shared chaos and hilarity the shooter has become known for.
Some hosting players, however, decry such fun-having as detrimental. They insist others play just as they do, or use an arbitrary set of weapons and supporting strategems they have chosen to be “the meta.” When others break these rules they go full toxic player, giving orders and threatening to kick from the game those who won’t comply.
It’s a problem Arrowhead game studios is very aware of, and wants to fix. Earlier this month Arrowhead boss Johan Pilestedt, in a fit of democratic pique, even solicited ideas from the broader sphere of social media on how to fix the problem of toxic hosts.

If you’ve been champing at the bit for the return of GOG Connect, the service that allowed you to import selected games from your Steam library over to your GOG collection, then I’ve got some bad news. GOG has finally and quietly retired the service, with the URL now redirecting users to the store’s front page.
Eagle-eyed Reddit users began to notice the redirect around a week ago, even though the page was still accessible as recently as January 1, but the lack of an official announcement meant it was hard to be sure if the service was gone for good. However, a GOG spokesperson tells PCG that they “can confirm that GOG Connect is no longer supported and is removed from [GOG’s] page”.

In 2010 it was announced that Interceptor Entertainment was working on a remake of Duke Nukem 3D, the classic game of shooting, booting, and polluting children’s minds. What had begun as a fan project to bring it into the then-modern Unreal Engine 3 was given Gearbox’s blessing and renamed from Duke Nukem: Next Gen to Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded.
A year later, the Duke remake was put “on hold”. The project’s lead, Frederik Schreiber, wrote in a blog post that Gearbox’s product manager and legal counsel had told him the remake was “getting too much attention from the press and the fans” and that “We were required to pull all media related to Reloaded, from our website and Facebook. We were also told, not to talk about it anymore.”
At the time, Duke Nukem Forever had been released to what could generously be called a mixed reception. Gearbox was focusing on DLC in an attempt to rehabilitate the unloved game. When Schreiber asked whether Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded would still have Gearbox’s blessing to be published at a later date, he claimed he was told, “we can’t tell you if we will allow the game to be released.”
